Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness
Breast cancer can often be a lifelong, devastating diagnosis, affecting not just the person afflicted but their family and friends as well. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in order to help raise awareness for breast cancer, Stuart area plumbers are proud to share the following information to commemorate those who are living with breast cancer in their lives.
Why the Pink Ribbon

Wearing a pink ribbon can show your solidarity with those afflicted with breast cancer, their friends and family members, and also act as a memorial for those who may have lost their fight with this disease.
Many large organizations utilize pink and pink ribbons in their campaigns and logos or slogans, so if you’d like to show your support for breast cancer awareness, don’t be afraid to wear it pink this October!
October 18th: A Day of Support
October 18th is traditionally singled out as the specific day in October to raise funds for breast cancer awareness. Whether these funds support organizations that are partnering with science and medical practices looking for treatments or cures for breast cancer, or whether the funds support organizations that raise more awareness about breast cancer as a disease, October 18th is the day that many such groups will make a push for donations to their causes.

If you’re looking for a specific day to donate or to organize a funds drive for your preferred breast cancer organization of choice, consider October 18th, especially since some organizations may have funds matching, which could increase your donations.
Breast Cancer Signs
Breast cancer is a disease that can affect women of almost any age, and also men as well. Which is why it’s important to familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms of this disease. The symptoms of breast cancer include, but are not limited to:
-
A lump or mass found in your breast.
- Nipple discharge.
- Breast swelling
- Skin changes of the breast (such as dimpling or “orange peel skin”).
- Inverted nipple.
- Redness or breast pain.
If you have any of these symptoms, it’s important to check with your physician, simply because while these may be a symptom of breast cancer, many of them signify other illnesses. Or they may be nothing at all.
Early detection in breast cancer can be important, though, to provide you with more options for treatment. Breast cancer treatments can include surgery, chemotherapy, hormonal therapies, and radiation.
If you notice any changes in your body or suspect breast cancer, speak to your physician about your concerns as soon as you can.
